Northern Parasol is pleased to announce that we are teaming up with the Music Venue Trust (MVT) for all of our events during 2025!
Since 2014, the MVT has been an industry leader, supporting independent venues across the United Kingdom. According to their annual report in 2023, the UK lost 16% of its grassroots venues, with 125 spaces permanently closing for live music. They have highlighted, in the case of the much anticipated Oasis reunion, only 11 of 34 grassroots venues the Manchester band played on their first headline tour in 1994 remain.
Without independent grassroots venues, Northern Parasol couldn’t survive, let alone thrive.
That’s why we’re so pleased to announce that every time someone purchases a ticket for any of our shows in 2025, you will have the opportunity to donate directly to the Music Venue Trust. We have decided to absorb any fee charged on the donation and make up the difference to ensure that every penny you donate makes a difference.
The MVT work tirelessly to ensure that the grassroots venues have a fighting chance to survive in such a difficult environment. Just recently, Coldplay announced that 10% of the proceeds from their 2025 London & Hull shows will be donated to the MVT. The Albert Hall in Manchester are also allowing anyone who purchases a ticket to donate directly to the Music Venue Trust. But it can’t just be these big names, we all have to work together.
Any donation can help. The 2023 Annual Report showed that the whole sector would’ve operated at a loss without a £3.1 million donation, with a large chunk of that coming from MVT’s own Pipeline Fund. They have warned that rising business rates in April put over 350 more venues at risk. The MVT are integral to the survival of the grassroots scene.
They recently teamed up with Save Our Scene to create the ‘Liveline Fund’, which will focus on ‘strengthening the future viability of the UK’s music eco-system’. It will allow artists and companies in the Music Industry to easily donate in order to continue the amazing work of both the MVT and Save Our Scene.
The UK has a grassroots scene that is second to none, with Manchester its beating heart. Help us support the venues that keep this scene alive, by donating to the MVT whenever you purchase a ticket. Donations can be made when booking tickets in advance through Northern Parasol’s Eventbrite page or when purchasing tickets on the door.
